Rebuilding a Family Legacy
In September 2022, Shalimar was destroyed by Hurricane Ian.
Having hosted countless island vacations since 1959, Shalimar has always been a small family business. Originally comprised of charming cottages and a motel building set closest to the water than anywhere else on Sanibel Island, the property was swept barren by record-breaking storm surge. Since then, we have been on a journey to build back our place in paradise. For many of our guests, a yearly visit to Shalimar was a family tradition passed though the ages. Though the "new" Shalimar does not look the same, it is far more resilient; and our mission is the same as ever -- to be a home away from home where we, our guests, and many future generations can enjoy the beauty of this very special island.
